Dorival Caymmi - Cancoes Praieiras (1954)

I was very frustrated for not being able to repost Cancoes Praieiras, which is Dorival Caymmi masterpiece, at least in my humble opinion. I was reluctant to make a copy of my vinyl, he is not on ideal conditions in terms of media and cover artwork, but the chances to get this one on a nice shape is really small, so I decided to make my best effort on a restoration, but I was not able to make it with no background noise. I'm making it in respect of several friends who have been requesting this one gathering my original text from August 2006. Let's see.

This is Dorival Caymmi - Cancoes Praieiras (1954), for Odeon, a superb and extremely beautiful featuring Dorival Caymmi and his violao. Cancoes Praieiras was recorded 54 years ago and remains fresh as yesterday. The 10-inch format delivers a short 23 minutes duration time with only eight songs. Tracks include:

01 - Quem Vem Pra Beira do Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
02 - O "Bem" do Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
03 - O Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
04 - Pescaria (Canoeiro) (Dorival Caymmi)
05 - É Doce Morrer no Mar (Dorival Caymmi)
06 - A Jangada Voltou Só (Dorival Caymmi)
07 - Lenda do Abaete (Dorival Caymmi)
08 - Saudade de Itapoã (Dorival Caymmi)

Attention: Music files are now updated, courtesy AdHoc, that Rocks! Thanks also Alvinho, cvllos and all other friends made available their music to us.

I really like this cover. Simple and very attractive.
The figures seem to have been drawn apart, cut out and stuck on the background. And this is the prelude to a great music.
Thanks a lot zecalouro.

Canções Praieiras is not just "nice", or "attractive artwork".

This is one of the very few watershed albums that has redefined the way the acoustic guitar is played.

The harmonies, the interplay between voice and instrument, the dynamics, the elegance and the rythm in the extremely difficult voice + guitar combination make it one of the higher peaks in the tall mountain range of Brazilian guitar.

Oi!

Fine work, feels like being at the beach.... I mean, I could go to the beach here but it would be awesome to be in a beach in Brazil, especially listening to this album... many people in Brazil think that, when at the beach, one should listen exclusively pagode, axé (which are lousy styles from the samba branches)and many times the "carioca funk", which is awful as well!

I say otherwise... I mean, it's ok to have axé at night, but during the day this is the album I wanna listen to... and some others as well, haha... but I wanna go to Bahia, to the real nice places in Bahia, and listen to this one album!

Thanks zeca for this beautiful piece of jewelry.

Marcos,

Acho que você consegui definir muito bem esse disco, que considero um dos mais legais que temos por aqui.

Mande um abraço para o pessoal do Mexico. Estive várias vezes por aí e tenho lembrancas muito boas.

Abraços, zeca
