Academicos do Salgueiro - Ai Vem o Samba (1957)

I'm back. Samba Saturday was postponed one single post and your wait really worth. This is a nice find. Before taking, I want to warn for the quality of this ripping. It is not clean; this album has 51 years and was found on a really bad condition. The sound is scratch sometimes and there are some few jumps. Take it from a historical perspective. This is an album recorded in 1957 by a real Escola de Samba and real Escola de Samba people. It is a journey to Brazilian Carnaval in the late 50's. 50 years ago.

This is Academicos do Salgueiro - Ai Vem o Samba (1957), for Musidisc. Acadêmicos do Salgueiro is a traditional Escola de Samba in Rio de Janeiro. Tracks Ensaio de Ritmo Nr. 1 and Nr. 2 are "batucadas" with no lyrics, the others tunes are compositions that we never heard before, composed by Academicos do Salgueiro songwriters. Sorry, there is an exception, track 05 - Esquentando a Cuica, do not have lyrics, but a performance of Cuica, this unique instrument with a very beautiful sound. The cover artwork speaks by itself. Tracks include:

01 - Ensaio de Ritmo Nº 1
02 - Assim Não É Amor (Eden Silva / Geraldo Jacques / Nilo Moreira)
03 - Falam de Mim (Eden Silva / Noel Rosa de Oliveira / Aníbal da Silva)
04 - Não Interessa (Eden Silva / Nilo Moreira / Aidno Sá)
05 - Esquentando a Cuíca
06 - Não Tenho Alegria (Eden Silva / Nilo Moreira / Waldemar da Silva)
07 - Obra de Deus (Eden Silva / Aníbal da Silva / Oldemar Magalhães)
08 - Felicidade É Uma Quimera (Eden Silva / Aníbal da Silva)
09 - Rosa Maria (Eden Silva / Aníbal da Silva)
10 - Ensaio de Ritmo Nº 2
11 - Desperta Vila Isabel (Eden Silva / Aníbal da Silva)
12 - Sol da Liberdade (Eden Silva / Nilo Moreira / Emanoel Gitahy)

The cover art is cool. Can't wait to listen to the recording (skips, pops, and all)!

P.S. Just noticed you have 22 visits from Vatican City. How wild is that!

Hello Strangefruit,

Nice thing on Vatican City.

Perhaps Loronixers are there using notebooks with wireless connections. I don't know.

Cheers, zeca
