Paulinho da Costa - Agora (1976)

This is a contribution that came from a Loronixer, let's call him Mr. V., that is presenting to us the debut LP of an artist that I never gave much attention on my musical selections. Paulinho da Costa is a Brazilian percussionist that made his career in the United States, being a very requested studio musician, participating on several renowned artists recordings, such as: Dizzy Gillespie, Milt Jackson, Joe Pass, Freddie Hubbard, among others. Thanks Mr. V. for this nice contribution to Loronixers.

This is Paulinho da Costa - Agora (1976), for Original Jazz Classics (USA), featuring Octavio Bailly Jr. (bass), Claudio Slon (drums and production), Steve Huffsteter, Gene Goe (trumpet, flugehorns), Frank Rosolino, Mike Julian (trombone), Greg Phillinganes (piano), Lee Ritenour (guitar) and Larry Williams (sax, flute). It is always nice to introduce new artists to Loronixers, let's give feedback on comments section. Tracks include:

01 - Simbora (Paulinho da Costa / Cláudio Slon)
02 - Terra (Paulinho da Costa / Octávio Bailly Jr. / Cláudio Slon)
03 - Toledo Bagel (Paulinho da Costa / Cláudio Slon / Erich Bulling)
04 - Berimbau Variations (Paulinho da Costa / Octávio Bailly Jr. / Cláudio Slon)
05 - Belisco (Erich Bulling)
06 - Ritmo Number One (Paulinho da Costa / Cláudio Slon)

I did not know him, but his music is fantastic. Jazz, Samba, and a "hard African rithm" is some compositions ("Terra" sounds more to come from Africa than from Brazil).
I like the Jazz Bands leaded by a percusionist; they give some special touch to their music.
But, let's see the crowd ... Lee Ritenour! Wow, one of my favourite guitarists!
Thank you a lot.

Wow, mine was stolen from me many years ago. I used to be in a band with a klepto. He's long gone but it's good to see the album is still possible.
Thank you
