Noite Ilustrada - Cara de Boboca (1960)

Hello, Good Night! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas night with your families. My Christmas was great this year with some nice gifts sent by Loronixers. I will try to open these gifts today, others will be opened in another occasion since I received more that four gifts and there is no room for all.

Let's start with a truly awesome, a record that I didn't know the existence and a great surprise. Thanks to Mr. W., a new Loronix friend that decided to start sharing his LPs with us. What a nice start. This is Noite Ilustrada - Cara de Boboca (1960), for Mocambo, the first Noite Ilustrada LP, featuring one of his most famous tunes, Cara de Boboca, previously released in 1958 at 78 RPM format. Truly amazing record with an amazing cover artwork of the legendary Mocambo.

Noite Ilustrada is a renowned Samba interpreted that released many records throughout a productive career. Mario de Souza Marques Filho received the artistic name of Noite Ilustrada in his first performance as an artist when the show host, Ze Trindade, making fun, decided to announce his entrance at the stage as "noite ilustrada", a well-known Brazilian magazine at that time. Noite Ilustrada has died recently at the age of 75 in 2003.

I spoke with Caetano Rodrigues about this LP and he said that Mocambo master tapes were probably lost due a flood at Mocambo offices one or two decades ago. Caetano said that this should be a quite rare LP. That’s why the work of collectors are very important, with no master tapes, collector copies are the only way to keep alive the wonderful records made by Mocambo. Tracks include:

01 - Cara de Boboca (Jaime Silva / Edmundo Andrade)
02 - Play-boy (José Henrique)
03 - Diabo de Saia (Edmundo Andrade)
04 - Escureceu (Edmundo Andrade)
05 - Cadê Cidinha (Marques Filho)
06 - Compreensão (Jeny Santos / Marques Filho)
07 - Castiguei (Venâncio / Jorge Costa)
08 - Nada Me Embaraça (Rômulo Santos)
09 - Danada Cegonha (Edmundo Andrade)
