Carlos Lee - Bossa Maximus

I received this album today from a new Loronixer, good friend, very willing to collaborate. He asked more information about this singer, Carlos Lee. I spoke with someone that knows everything, Caetano Rodrigues and the answer was: "I never heard about Carlos Lee". So I decided to make it for Loronixers appreciation. This album had a reissue a couple of years ago, with no additional information about it. This is probably one of the most obscure albums I had the chance to show here and I hope our community can gather the missing information.

This is Carlos Lee - Bossa Maximus (no date), for Musidisc. I can only say that the album is nice and very well arranged. If you ask my guess how old is Carlos Lee, I would say he had less than twenty five years by the time Bossa Maximus was released, perhaps this is the reason why is voice is not so "mature" as it uses to be. Anyway, I will let with Loronixers the work to unlock what is behind Carlos Lee and his Bossa Maximus. Tracks include:

01 - Canto de Boiadeiro
02 - Meu Rio
03 - Zulu
04 - Amando Estou
05 - Cantiguinha
06 - Capoeira de Oxalá
07 - Mensagem
08 - Subúrbio Triste
09 - Rei do Kilombo
10 - Você Me Conquistou
11 - Quarta
12 - Disseram

Hello Zeca,
really is this album so unknown as I heard about if the master Caetano does not know about Carlos Lee.
so nice to see Carlos Lee now at Loronix.
this is a beautiful album I love it since I bought it from Whatmusic.
There is a story behind this re-release. In the time when Whatmusic started to re-release Musicsisc albums, the grande Durval Ferreira made Connections to the Musidisc archives. Then they found somewhere "downstairs" a jewel - this album- an album about which also they forgotten .They send it to Whatmusic and Whatmusic was very amazed and so it happened . It seems there are only very few copies of the original vinil released by Musidisc.Aso it seems that this is the only one recording Carlos Lee ever made so probably Carlos Lee died very young.
You find some of these infos in the liner notes of the Whastmusic re-release and I talked about Carlos Lee with people from Whatmusic when I vistited them in London.
Perhps this is one of the most obscure bossa nova releases .

Best wishes

Hi, Zeca,
Thanks for Carlos Lee. He is great! I love his voice and phrasing, and really like the musicians behind him. I wish there were more albums!

CDBaby has an interesting article at: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/carlos

Thanks, again, Flatulist

Hi Bossanovadreamer,

I guess we met but not sure who you are behind the name!

Actually the story behind to reissue of this record is funny but not exactly how you told it.

I bought this LP online because of the cover and the songs and that it was on Musidisc where we had carte blanche to reissue from their catalogue.

So every week I would tell Durval "We want to reissue this or that LP" but this time the answer came back from Nilo Sergio and Ary - this record doesn't exist!

Even with the release number and the fact that there was a song by Durval on the album (usually a sign that he had some connection with a record on Musidisc) Ary was certain that he never recorded anyone called Carlos Lee!

Eventually he found the master tape but still could not remember and there was no information about Carlos Lee or the musicians!

Before the reissue Durval tried to find someone who knew who Carlos Lee was - this could not be difficult in the tiny Rio scene of the day. But we found no one.

A few years later Bebeto Castilho from Tamba Trio told me he remembered the guy but only very vaguely.

So it's still a big mystery!
