Eumir Deodato - Deodato / Airto | In Concert (1973)

There are some interesting facts behind this album, I don't know if it is true or rumors, but they are very interest for sure. Deodato / Airto In Concert was recorded live in in the Felt Forum of New York City's Madison Square Garden, just before Deodato blockbuster Also Sprach Zarathurstra.

The first issue was release in 1973, with no agreement or authorization by Eumir Deodato, which had already left CTI to MCA Records by that time. Airto Moreira played before Deodato and also without knowing had two tracks of his performance included at this first issue. I will tell more about it.

This is Eumir Deodato - Deodato / Airto | In Concert (1973), for CTI. This is the second issue, released at the CD era with more confusion in the front. Although credited as main performer, Airto Moreira lost his two tracks, being replaced by some others performed by Eumir Deodato at that same concert that were never released on any other album before. The two Airto Moreira missing tracks were moved to another album, The Best of Airto. I never saw such confusion on a record before. We are making the CD issue, so we will need to take it as an Eumir Deodato album, although CTI kept Airto Moreira name on main title. If someone can send us the original LP with the two Airto Moreira missing tracks we update this post. Tracks include:

Any chance of getting a personnel listing for this? I'm particularly wondering if John Tropea is on guitar and John Giulino is playing electric bass.

Harold_z,

Done! Your assumption match, John Tropea and John Giulino were in the set.

Thanks for the reminder!

Creed Taylor sequer avisou o Deodato de que havia lançado esse disco, o que ajudou a azedar mais ainda a relação entre eles. Em suma, o Eumir ficou mais p... ainda com o cara.

Do you have Deodato's Artistry or Knights of Fantasy or Night Cruiser? Could you please post? Have been searching for these 3 albums but just couldn't find them. Thanks.

Hi Zeca,

The story you told about this recording is absolutely true and it seems that Deodato used to have that kind of problems with other recordings published without his authorization, such as the one named "Aranjuez" released in Italy.

Anyway, I guess all Deodato's fans will be waiting for his brand "new" album, the recent Rio's concert in trio which will be released soon on Biscoito Fino label and on dvd too !

Last, Eumir was in studio these last weeks, recording the orchestrations for the new album of a very famous french artist named Christophe (cult here in France with hit songs such as "Aline", "Les Mots Bleus", "Les Paradis Perdus"...). An amazing meeting !

Cheers

Hello, I stumbled upon he original version here

(posted on 2007-11-18)
and thought I'd let you know too.

It is also interesting to note that Deodato used Bob James as an arranger, although he himself is famous for his arrangements.

And thanks for the fabulous treasure trove that this blog is!

greets, mat

Hey there Zecalouro,

I just wanted to let you know that a few days ago I found a copy of the 1974 long-playing record album "Deodato In Concert Airto" (CTI 6041 - RVG SQ 87699) at a Goodwill store in San Fraqncisco, California, USA for only 49 cents.

I am playing the Airto track "Branches" as I am typing this.

What a magnificent find!

I was searching online for background information on this album when I was led to your blog.

On the record LP, the performances are not even separated by the artists.

Side 1, Track 1 - Do It Again (6:29)- Deodato

Side 1, Track 2 - Spirit of Summer (5:33) Deodato

Side 1, Track 3 - Parana (6:50) Airto

Side 2, Track 1- Tropea (8:50) Deodato

Side 2, Track 2 - Branches (7:14) Airto

Thank you so much for the update!

Cheers,
